Dr. William J. Tallon has been named dean of the College of Business at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He assumed the role on June 1, 2010.
Tallon comes to UW Oshkosh from the Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky University, where he served as dean since 2006. Prior to that role, he served for 16 years at Northern Illinois University, first as an assistant professor, then chair of the department of operations management and information systems, and later as associate dean and interim dean of the College of Business.
“I am truly honored to be chosen as the next dean of the College of Business,” said Tallon. “I am convinced that our college has an extremely bright future as we continue to prepare our students for successful careers in a very dynamic business environment. I look forward with great enthusiasm to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as we become the school of choice for students, faculty, staff and the business community.”
During his time at Western Kentucky University, Tallon directed the process for achieving both the maintenance of business accreditation and initial accounting accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. He also initiated a professional MBA program, a business honors program, a business living and learning community, and began a Center for Professional Selling. Under his leadership, the College expanded its Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, initiated a dual degree program in international business with partner institutions in Mexico and France, and began a partnership with institutions in Mexico and Canada to deliver a trilateral MBA program. Further, the College received a $7.15 million estate gift and two $1 million endowed professorships during his tenure.
“Dr. Tallon has a record of visionary, innovative leadership and proven fund-raising capabilities, effective human and financial resource management, and academic excellence,” said Provost Lane Earns.
Added Chancellor Richard H. Wells, “Dr. Tallon brings to the University a wealth of knowledge and experience as a College of Business administrator. His innovative approaches will allow him to lead our great College of Business to even higher levels of excellence.”
The College of Business is the only comprehensive university in northeastern Wisconsin to maintain stringent AACSB accreditation. Students learn from award-winning faculty members that have a wide range of expertise and real-world experience and are dedicated to each student’s individual success.
