Jan Norton, director of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Center for Academic Resources, is the fifth person in the nation to receive lifetime certification in learning center leadership from the National College Learning Center Association.

The certification highlights the accomplishments of people in the field of learning assistance based on a series of benchmarks, experiences and training in the theories and best practices in the field.

“Tutoring is sometimes seen — and misunderstood — as a simple matter of a weaker student working with a stronger one, but there is so much more to having a high-quality tutoring program that supports faculty teaching by assisting student learning,” Norton said. “I have always wanted to ensure I am providing the best services possible so I have stayed current with research and best practices in the field.”

“Jan is a leader in our field and this certification credentials her great accomplishments and contributions to the work of theory and practice in student learning assistance,” said Rae Maslana, NCLCA certification chair.
