Wisconsin Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson will share an inside perspective on law and politics at an upcoming visit to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

Abrahamson will present “Views from the Bench” at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, in Room 202 of Reeve Memorial Union, 748 Algoma Blvd. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome.

“Wisconsin Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson promises to discuss how she applies the federal Constitution and the Wisconsin Constitution in her role as the state’s top judge,” said David Siemers, associate political science professor and American Democracy Project (ADP) chair.

Abrahamson’s lecture serves as a sequel to the UW Oshkosh’s Sept. 17 celebration of Constitution Day, which included a dunk tank and a presentation about free speech on campus. The presentation is sponsored by the ADP, UW Oshkosh’s Political Science Student Association and the Provost’s Office.

“Abrahamson brings decades of experience in the law to her work as Wisconsin’s chief justice, a wealth of practical knowledge in applying the rule of the law and an understanding of politics as problem solving, which requires engaged citizens to work well,” Siemers said.

“Everyone who values justice, continuity, fairness and the stability brought by having a government under law should be interested in her talk,” he said.
