Starting in the fall, three University of Wisconsin Oshkosh interns will serve as the eyes and ears for everything Reeve.

Reeve Marketing, which designs marketing materials for the various departments and student organizations, hired three social media interns to blog about their experiences and events they attend in Reeve Memorial Union.

“The purpose of the bloggers is to create a more personal relationship and connection between students and Reeve,” said Ali Maresh, Reeve marketing assistant. “Think of these bloggers as the go-to people about what to do in Reeve.”

Student bloggers Kimmie Albertin, Jessica Faris and Aaron Katzfey will work independently and meet with Reeve Marketing for weekly status updates to review the calendar of events in Reeve.

“I really want this blog to be authentic and a true representation of what the students are experiencing,” Reeve Marketing Manager Kate Unger said. “I don’t want it to be fake; it will be very unintentional and real.”

Unger hopes the blogs will increase student awareness of Reeve and give the union a more authentic feel by communicating to students using the latest technology.

Bloggers also will maintain and update accounts on other social media sites like Twitter and Flickr to constantly inform students of involvement and entertainment opportunities on campus.

Although the internship is unpaid, students can receive up to three credits for their work, along with invaluable work experience.

“Since social media will be such a big thing for businesses, being familiar with these tools is an important trait to have,” said Albertin, a business major.

Unger hopes the bloggers will increase traffic to the Reeve Union Web site by being more proactive in marketing the union’s services to students.

“I want to do more for student organizations, and this is a step in the right direction,” Unger said.
