Terri Wouts, philosophy academic department associate, has been named recipient of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh April 2012 STAR Award.

Wouts was nominated by Laurence Carlin. Portions of her nomination submission follow:

“The main reason for this nomination is Ms.Wouts’ exceptional service to the Philosophy Department during the Department’s move from Polk Library to Clow Faculty last summer.

“Ms. Wouts went FAR beyond her contractual duties in facilitating the Philosophy Department move. While she is not required to come in at all during the summer, she came to campus many days to pack boxes, make contacts, assist faculty, communicate with facilities management, etc. And though it is certainly not her job to move furniture in our new location, I would often catch her doing just that in late August. She wanted to make sure the department was up and running for the fall semester. She set up the computer lab, made sure every office was functioning, made sure everyone had access to the resources needed to begin a new semester, and made sure that our old location was left in pristine condition. Not only did most of this work in itself exceed her normal responsibilities, but as a .5 FTE she was not even required to be on campus last summer. She knew the University community was going through a challenging transition with the many moves surrounding the opening of Sage, and she demonstrated beyond any doubt her commitment to serving the University during such challenges – even when doing so involves going beyond her contractual duties. I have no doubt Ms. Wouts is fully deserving of this award. She is indeed a shining STAR.”
