University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alumni are invited to take a walk down memory lane and share their favorite experiences from campus life as part of the University’s first-ever Alumni Memories Project.
The names of all alumni who take part in the project will be entered in a drawing for a super Titan prize pack to be awarded in October in conjunction with Homecoming 2012, planned for Oct. 12-13.
“I have always enjoyed listening to alumni reminisce about their UWO days, and it will be neat to capture a glimpse of alumni life as part of this official memories project,” said UWO Alumni Director Christine Gantner. “Many alumni have shared that they not only received a high-quality education at UWO, but also lasting friendships and cherished memories. We hope this project inspires an opportunity for reflection.”
To take part, submit an old photo or video, along with a one-paragraph statement describing a most cherished UW Oshkosh memory, for inclusion in the multimedia scrapbook project to be unveiled during Homecoming 2012. Be sure to include name, graduation year, contact information and the name of the photo or video file to be submitted.
Follow these guidelines when submitting your memories:
- Print photos, along with the paragraph, should be mailed to Natalie Johnson, UW Oshkosh Alumni Relations, 800 Algoma Boulevard, Oshkosh, WI, 54901-8614. Photos will be scanned and returned.
- Electronic photos (the original jpg files from your digital camera at the highest-quality … not copies from Facebook or other websites) and videos running two minutes or less (saved in any video file format) should be submitted here, along with your paragraph in an MS Word file. Use the passphrase UWOmemories when submitting your files.
The deadline for Alumni Memories Project submissions is July 15, 2012. Please note: Project organizers reserve the right to edit submissions based on length or content.

Attending UW Oshkosh provided me with the opportunity to discover my gifts and strengths, expand my knowledge and interests, form deep friendships with many, and find my lifetime partner – my husband, Philip W. Hanegraaf (Class of 1981).
Despite remembering the frigid winters walking through the “wind tunnels” on campus to get to a class on-time, I reflect more on my favorite memories include Scott Hall Regattas, the RUB events, the Titans football games, my 3rd floor residents and friends at Scott Hall (I was their resident assistant), St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Andy’s Library, Kelly’s and Mr. Lucky’s. Gee, how many times did we buy a “magnet dog” just so that we can cash a check at Kelly’s?!
Like for most everyone, it was my first opportunity to live away from my family in Kenosha and experience “independence” . . . and to be “broke” with others my same age. My experiences from my senior year of living off-campus in a first floor apartment (of an old home on Scott Avenue) with my dear roommates, Dawn Gerlikowski, Renee Hanna and Mary Barbier, were priceless.
Academically, I will be forever grateful to the students and professors in the Journalism department and Speech: Radio-TV-Film . . . especially to these teachers – Mr. Bill Schrivner, Mr. Garner Horton, “Doc” Lippert and “Doc” Snyder.Their encouragement and belief in my skills and talents undoubtedly contributed to my confidence and my abilities to build an advertising and public relations career.
During the last 30+ years, I’ve driven through the UWO campus a couple of times while enroute to see family north of Oshkosh, and experienced a flood of sentiments from a memorable chapter of my life. Thank you, UW Oshkosh teachers, classmates, friends and my dear husband of 32 years, Phil.
Greetings, Ms.Hanegraff: Please consider submitting this memory with an accompanying photo or video to our memories project via the link in the above story. Thanks!
