Campus activities aim to commemorate Black History Month
Byron Adams hopes February’s Black History Month events on campus will promote cultural awareness.
The Center for Academic Support and Diversity and the Black Student Union have an array of activities planned for the national annual observance.
“Students should consider attending these activities because although we celebrated the history and heritage of African Americans throughout the year, the month of February is when we pay special tribute to those who have contributed collectively and individually to American history,” said Byron Adams, advisor for the Center for Academic Support and Diversity.
The festivities kick-off Feb. 1 at Reeve Union with a variety show, which starts at 5 p.m. and features poetry, steppin’, a Hip-Hop Show and African Dance.

- Monday, Feb. 13; 5 p.m. – Valentine’s Day Date Auction, Reeve Union 227
- Wednesday, Feb. 15; 6 p.m. – African American Studies Film Series: The Help, Sage Hall 1234
- Friday, Feb. 17; 8 p.m. – Open Mic Night, Titan Underground
- Monday, Feb. 20; 5 p.m. – Black Love & Black Relationships, Reeve Union 201
- Tuesday, Feb. 21; 6:30 p.m. – Film: For Colored Girls, Women’s Center
- Thursday, Feb. 23; 6 p.m. – African American Studies Film Series: Antwone Fisher, Women’s Center
- Saturday, Feb. 25; 8 p.m. – Black History Month Student Party, Titan Underground
- Monday, Feb. 27; 4 p.m. – Positioning Yourself for Success: Job Finding Skills, Multicultural Education Center
- Monday, Feb. 27; 6 p.m. – African American Film Series: Glory Road
Adams said he hopes the programming will provide “an outlet for students to socialize and network with members of different cultures.”
He also hope the month-long line up of events will helps students become more involved at UW Oshkosh.

I was wondering if you could share some of the ideas you had on putting on this event as I could use some help on making this event special and honorable. Do you give out prizes?
