The Provost and Vice Chancellor’s Office has appointed members of UW Oshkosh staff and faculty to an ad-hoc task force to review the undergraduate research activities on campus and to develop recommendations for strengthening and expanding them. The inaugural meeting was held Nov. 20.

The task force will:

  • Review the Student/Faculty Collaborative Research programs, with an eye toward a new process for reviewing proposals and making awards;
  • Inventory existing campus undergraduate research activities in order to establish a baseline for planning and growth;
  • Explore programs at peer institutions to inform vision and goal-setting; and
  • Investigate financial resources needed for undergraduate research programs.

The following will serve a one-year term on the task force: Steven Bentivenga (biology/microbiology), Lisa Dorn (biology/microbiology), Linda Freed (Office of Grants and Faculty Development), David Furcy (computer science), Jonathan Gutow, chair (chemistry), Judith Hankes (curriculum and instruction), Marguerite Helmers (English and McNair Scholars Program), George Hudak (geology), Jaya Jambunathan (nursing), Marianne Johnson (economics), Stephen Kercher (history), Greg Kleinheinz (biology/microbiology and Office of Grants and Faculty Development), Paul Klemp (English and Oshkosh Scholar), Roberta Maguire (English and University Honors Program), Kevin McGee (economics), Tom Naps (computer science), Carol Seaman (mathematics), Bob Stelzer (biology/microbiology), Jennifer Wenner (geology), Perry Rettig (Provost and Vice Chancellor’s Office), Mary Seaman (Biology/Microbiology and McNair Scholars Program) and Susan Surendonk (Office of Grants and Faculty Development).
