On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Speech Communication department held its inaugural UW Oshkosh Speech Festival.

Of the 1,000 students currently enrolled in Fundamentals of Speech, 36 were nominated by classmates to perform in the festival.

In a very close final round, Tammy Rusch took third place with her speech on high-fructose corn syrup and Ben Kozoloski earned second place speaking about the economy and free market. Keving Cushing won with his powerful speech on the Pledge of Allegiance and the phrase “In God we trust”.

Rhyme Business Solutions, the UW Oshkosh Debate Team, the Speech Communication department and University Books & More sponsored the event.

Congratulations to all who competed.
