The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Golden Key International Honour Society, an international, collegiate-level honor society accepting the top 15 percent of each class, has seven officers for the 2011-2012 school year.

President Hannah Thiel, 22, is a senior psychology and Spanish major from Hilbert, Wis. Hannah said she joined Golden key to get more involved on campus and the prestige of being in an honor society.

Vice president Kimberly Schwarzkopf, 20, is a junior biology major with a healthcare science emphasis. Kim is from Franklin, Wis. and joined Golden Key to get more involved on campus and for the volunteer opportunities.

Secretary Suzanne Hietpas, 28, is a senior biology major with a healthcare science emphasis. Suzy is from Appleton, Wis. and said she joined Golden Key to become a more active student on campus.

Social director Jennifer Rabas, 19, is a sophomore elementary education and special education double major from Green Bay, Wis. She said she joined Golden Key to be more active on campus and because it was a good opportunity.

Co-public relations and awareness director Elizabeth Rothe, 20, is a junior nursing major from Green Bay, Wis. She joined Golden Key to experience new things.

Co-public relations and awareness director Kayde Kempen, 21, is a senior journalism major from Chilton, Wis. She joined Golden Key for the community service opportunities and the privilege of being in an international honor society.

UW Oshkosh’s Golden Key chapter is advised by assistant dean Jim Schlinsog. Schlinsog is also the coordinator of services for students with disabilities.

The mission of the the Golden Key International Honour Society is, “to enable members to realize their potential through the advancement of academics, leadership and service,” according to goldenkey.org.

Golden Key was founded in 2001 at Georgia State University and is the largest college-level honor society in the world with chapters at more than 400 colleges and 2 million members.

Upcoming events for the UW Oshkosh Golden Key Chapter include the Halloween Carnival in Titan Underground on Oct. 27, bingo at Evergreen Retirement Community, New Member Recognition event on Nov. 27, ringing bells for the Salvation Army and making tie blankets for the Children’s Hospital in Neenah, Wis.
