Robert McIlraith, custodian for the Student Recreation & Wellness Center, has been named the recipient of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh STAR Award for October 2011. Anne Armstrong nominated him. Portions of the nomination letter follow:

“There is no job too big or too small — out of Bob’s department — when it comes to his service on this campus. Everyone who walks in to the wellness center knows, loves and respects Bob. Not just for all that he does for our building and department (great salsa!), but because Bob is a stand-up guy who really cares about all the students, faculty and staff.

“Bob has saved the wellness center untold amounts of money by taking care of all minor maintenance jobs. He petitioned to let the custodial staff take on the responsibility of landscaping duties, which saves a large amount of money that would otherwise have to be paid out. Bob does endless projects at home on his own time — without complaining or even asking to be reimbursed for his time. When we needed some way to install hand sanitizers on carts throughout the wellness center, Bob took it upon himself to buy the materials, come up with a design, build and install them! He is a jack of all trades and loves to be able to contribute this way.

“Bob has had a hand in everything good about the Student Rec and Wellness Center and should be recognized for it. The staff and faculty who know Bob would agree in a second that Bob deserves this award — and so much more. His tireless efforts affect everyone he knows in a positive way! Bob came to our campus from UW Fond du lac in 2007 and he is an absolute gem in every respect.”

Winners of the STAR Award receive a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for one month and a gift from University Books & More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to a member of the classified staff who has worked at least six months at UW Oshkosh.

The CSAC Awards & Recognition Committee submitted this announcement. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contribute calendar items, campus announcements and other good news to UW Oshkosh Today.
