Debra Weiske, Gruenhagen Conference Center front desk manager and finance assistant, has been named the recipient of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh STAR Award for August 2011. Marc Nylen and Norleen Luebke nominated her. Portions of the nomination letter follow:

“Debra Weiske is an incredibly dedicated, talented, committed and responsible staff member within the Gruenhagen Conference Center operation.  She is always willingly takes on all assignments requested of her.  She is extremely professional and consistently exceeds all standards of customer service when working with our UW Oshkosh students and Gruenhagen Conference Center guests.  She is seen as a tremendous resource and has always been an incredible asset to our conference center environment, and is known to go above and beyond the call of duty in all aspects of her work.  For this reason, we believe that she is very deserving of the STAR Award.

“Debbie has demonstrated commitment, dedication, loyalty, passion and University pride in her position as the Front Desk Manager and Finance Assistant.  As an alumna of UW Oshkosh, Debbie has always approached her day-to-day responsibilities with a sense of wanting to serve our UW Oshkosh students and Gruenhagen Conference Center guests with a true sense of warm welcome and a high level of customer service.  She is innovative and creative in her approach to service, and her smile, warmth and sincerity set her apart in terms of service.

“Debbie has played an instrumental role in partnering with the staff and students of FVTC and in providing our students with an exceptional lodging program.  Over the past three years, this program has served an average of 70 students per year.  In her role Debbie assists in the marketing and public relations elements; orientation presentations; personal meetings and tours with students and their family members; and other very important aspects such as rent collection and overall contract administration.  In doing so, Debbie has proven to be an invaluable resource to our FVTC students, their family members and the staff from Riverside, Spanbauer and Appleton Main Campus.

“She has proven to not only be a skilled manager, but also an open, honest and friendly point of contact for all guests and students who call Gruenhagen their “home.”  She is genuinely and sincerely interested in cultivating relationships with our students and other clients and making them feel important and valued.  For these and many other reasons, we believe that Debbie is very deserving of the STAR Award.  She has made an incredible impact on all of us during her time as a staff member in the Gruenhagen Conference Center.”

Winners of the STAR Award receive a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for one month and a gift from University Books & More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to a member of the classified staff who has worked at least six months at UW Oshkosh.
