Alberto Gonzales, a special assignments employee with Custodial Services, has been named the recipient of the STAR Award for August 2008.

Gonzales, who joined the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s staff in 1981, was nominated by his supervisor, Nachell Nabbefeld.

Nabbefeld’s nomination of Gonzales follows:

“Custodial Services is becoming more and more the on campus ‘Two Men and a Truck,’ and without Alberto’s ingenuity, our tasks would be overwhelming. He has the foresight to see the order in which to do things and the tools he will need to accomplish it.

“I can sum Alberto up in one word: amazing.

“We have moved out, and then back in, several areas of Arts and Communications. Now we just finished moving all of Admissions in Dempsey over to Elmwood Commons. This was done in three days. Alberto and his right-hand man, Steve Hoppe, stayed past their scheduled leave time to accomplish this task, and they didn’t complain. Al always says it needed to be done ‘simple as that.’

“It’s nice to know I have a go-to person who requires little direction and I know will get the job done.”

Winners of the STAR Award receive a framed certificate, a reserved parking space for one month and a gift from University Books & More. The award for exceptional performance is presented each month to a member of the classified staff who has worked at least six months at UW Oshkosh.
