Rising tuition costs have posed a challenge for students around the nation, but the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and an important set of campus programs have helped ensure disadvantaged students are not shut out from a life-changing education.

UW Oshkosh students who have overcome financial challenge and other obstacles to build the foundation of a successful college career will share their inspirational stories with campus and community on Friday, April 1 in celebration of National TRiO Day.

UW Oshkosh Student Support Services and the McNair Scholars Programs will hold an open house and share personal success stories while showcasing the campus’s related programs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, Friday, April 1 in Reeve Memorial Union, Room 202.

TRiO is a set of federally-funded college opportunity programs that supports and motivates students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree. TRiO programs guide students through college while the focus remains on graduation.

UW Oshkosh Student Support Services plays a key role in enabling first-generation, qualifying students stay in college while earning their baccalaureate degrees. Students receive advising and financial aid literacy assistance to propel them in pursuit of a degree.

The Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program is designed to encourage eligible undergraduate students to consider preparation for doctoral study and careers in college teaching.
