Nicole Zedler, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh services associate, has been named the recipient of the March 2011 STAR Award. Rebecca Spurlock, assistant director in the Admissions Office, nominated her.

Radio-TV-Film students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh took home five of the student media awards presented by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association during the organization’s student media conference in Middleton, Wis. on March 5.

Those taking home honors, included:

  • Mallory Jacobson – first place, long-form, non-news radio production
  • Erik Schmeling – second place, long-form, non-news radio production
  • Joe Chitel – first place, television promo/PSA/commercial
  • Multi-camera Studio Production class – second place, television public affairs program
  • Tyler Thrune and B.J. DeGroot – second place, radio sports play by play

UW Oshkosh student Katelyn Zima was honored with one of the four scholarships awarded annually by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. Zima is currently the development director for both WRST and Titan TV.

UW Oshkosh cross-country runners Christy Cazzola, sophomore; Allison Gehl, senior; and McKenzie Kelly, sophomore; have received NCAA Division III All-Academic honors by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Student Sarah Burmeister is the 2011 James W. Unger Memorial Scholarship recipient, which is presented by the biology and microbiology department at UW Oshkosh. This award carries a $300 credit towards her next tuition obligation.

Jason Krahenbuhl and Jennifer Mohl, both students at UW Oshkosh, have been selected as the 2011 Outstanding Biology Majors by the biology and microbiology department at UW Oshkosh because of their exemplary performances at the University. Each award carries a $200 honorarium.

Ashley Winker, student at UW Oshkosh, is the recipient of the 2011 Leslie-Allen Fellowship in Ecology and Field Biology. The fellowship is provided by the biology and microbiology department at UW Oshkosh and is awarded to a student’s who has shown exceptional progress towards earning their degree in biology. This award carries a $500 honorarium.

Sophomore John Dewitt was named to the 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Dewitt also placed 83rd at the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 20 in Waverly, Iowa.

Juniors Sam Engelland and Carl DeLuca will represent UW Oshkosh at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championship in La Crosse March 12-13.

Senior Holly Ozanich leads a list of eight UW Oshkosh entrants in the 20-pound weight throw for the   National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship in Columbus, Ohio March 11-12.

The UW Oshkosh Model United Nations team once again received more awards than any other university at the 51st annual Midwest Model United Nations Competition in St. Louis. UW Oshkosh students won two of five Outstanding Delegation Awards in the General Assembly and one of three General Assembly Honorable Mentions, as well as five committee awards and five committee Honorable Mentions.

UW Oshkosh has received $50,000 from Iron County Public Health Department for research projects designed to inspect campgrounds, tourist rooming houses, hotels/motels and food establishments in Iron County. Greg Kleinheinz, biology and microbiology department, is the project director.
