Objective:

The course is designed to provide the student majoring in Theatre the practical experience of working on the backstage running crew for realized productions.

Assignments:

The student is required to work on a backstage running crew for one of the departmental productions during the semester. You will be required to be present at all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances and strike for that production. Practicum assignments may include working in the areas of: lighting, sound, projections, scenery, props, costumes or special effects.

Required Attire:

Appropriate attire is necessary when reporting to work on running crew. All backstage crew personnel are required to wear black pants, black long sleeve shirt and sneakers or work boots with no heel.  Crew members who will be flying scenery or moving set pieces may also be encouraged to wear work gloves.

Safety Regulations:

Please refer to the UWO Theatre Safety Rules and Regulations attached for additional information on appropriate safety rules and regulations.

Absences:

Any unexcused absence will result in your suspension from this class and the production crew.

Grading:

1.  Grade will take into account punctuality and adherence to work calls.

2.  Attitude and Initiative can and will make a difference in your grade.

 

Anticipated Schedule for Running Crew Option:

Dry Tech Rehearsal:
Saturday, February 14th, 10:00am – 5:00pm
Tech and Dress Rehearsals:
Sunday, February 15th, Noon – 5:00pm
Monday and Tuesday, February 16th – 17th, 5:30pm call
Performances:
Wednesday thru Saturday, February 18th – 21st, 5:30 pm call
Sunday Matinee, February 22nd, Noon Call (Strike follows)

 

  • Prop 8 (Experimental Theatre)

Dry Tech Rehearsal:
Saturday, March 7th, 10:00am – 5:00pm
Full Tech Rehearsal:
Sunday, March 8th, Noon – 5:00pm (anticipated scheduled times)
Dress Rehearsals:
Monday thru Wednesday, March 9th – 11th, 5:30pm call
Performances:
Thursday thru Saturday, March 12th – 14th, 5:30 pm call

Saturday, April 25th, 10:00am – 5:00pm
Tech and Dress Rehearsals:
Sunday, April 26th, Noon – 5:00pm
Monday and Tuesday, April 27th and 28th, 5:30pm call
Performances:
Wednesday thru Saturday, April 29th – May 2nd, 5:30 pm call
Sunday Matinee, May 3rd, Noon Call (Strike follows)

 

Strike:

All students who take participation Option A are required to attend a strike following the last performance of each production.  This will usually last approximately 2 hours.  Strike for: The Boy Inside will take place on February 22nd at approximately 4:00pm. Strike for Prop 8 will take place on March 12th at approximately 9:30pm. Strike for O Pioneers! will take place on May 3rd at approx 4:00pm.

If you choose Option B, you are required to strike the production you are assigned to as a running crewmember.

Grading:

1.  40 hours is a minimum passing requirement for those choosing option A.

2.  Punctuality at required rehearsals and performances is necessary for those who choose option B.

3.  Attitude and Initiative can and will make a difference in a grade for both options.

Shop Hours:

Scene Shop hours:  1:00-5:00pm  - Monday through Friday (424-7051)

Costume Shop hours:  1:00-5:00pm - Monday through Friday (424-0286)

Note: Both of these numbers have answering machines, so there is no excuse for not calling if you will be late or absent.
