National Board of Professional Teaching Standard Exam (NBPTS):


General Information: The NBPTS is a series of written exercises that measure the depth of a teacher's subject matter knowledge, as well as their understanding of how to teach those subjects. In addition to the written exercises there are other performance based assessments that are required for National Board Certification. These assessments include teaching portfolios, student work samples, videotapes, and classroom observations.

Registration information: The NBPTS is offered on a continuous basis throughout the year. Scheduling dates for candidates is determined by their eligibility record. Candidates must have an "Authorization to Test" before they can register. For more information call 800-22TEACH or visit their web site at www.nbpts.org.

Rescheduling or Canceling your Appointment: If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must call this Center or the Candidate Services Contact Center at 1-800-226-7958 no later than three (3) calendar days before the exam deadline for all NBTS (except EAYA Art & EMC/art no later than 10 full days before appointment). Each time you reschedule your NBPTS appointment, you will be charged a $50 reschedule fee, which you must pay to NBPTS immediately after changing your appointment.

ID Requirements: Bring Authorization to Test, and one form of identification that has both your photo and your signature. If your ID is questioned by the administrator, be prepared to present a second ID bearing your signature. Your ID must show exactly the name under which you registered. Acceptable forms of photo ID include a photo driver's license, photo employee ID, current passport, military ID or photo student ID. Photo credit cards will not be accepted as photo ID.

Parking: For your convenience we have five spaces in Lot #34 (Elmwood Avenue) which are reserved spaces for clients of Testing Services - A $2 permit is required (a permit can be purchased from the Information Booth in Lot #15 or in Polk Library Room 3B.

Arrival: Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to appointment. Note: Please do not arrive late for your testing appointment. According to ETS guidelines we may not test you and fees will not be refunded.
