Sustainable Energy
There is a lot of talk about alternative energy. UW Oshkosh has been a leader in Wisconsin in the purchase of green energy.
History
- In 2003, UW Oshkosh became the first Wisconsin university to join the EPA's Green Power Partnership, purchasing 3% of its energy from renewable sources in the NatureWise® Program of Wisconsin Public Service. We won an EPA Green Power Purchaser award.
- In 2006, we increased our purchase of green power to 11%, continuing to lead all state agencies in the purchase of alternative energy.
New initiatives
- Perform an engineering analysis of the campus heating plant and other facilities to develop a plan to transition away from the use of fossil fuels.
Goal
In 2006 Governor Doyle chose UW Oshkosh and three other campuses to pursue the ambitious goal of becoming 100% independent of fossil fuel energy for electricity, heating, and cooling.
