Mission:

The Oshkosh Community Gardens, in cooperation with the Community Gardens Partnership of Outagamie and Winnebago Counties, provides opportunities for diverse groups to share their experiences and knowledge with each other and with the community while promoting self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, nutrition and social responsibility.

Vision:

Nutrient-dense, natural food will no longer be exclusively available to the wealthy.  Education will no longer be limited to the classroom. The Oshkosh Community Gardens (OCG) will provide workshops in composting, irrigation, permaculture, “Sprouts for Sprouts” and Master Gardeners, as well as internships, summer school and Service-Learning opportunities. There will be regular farmers’ markets, even in winter – held in the greenhouse, with proceeds going to local charities. OCG will donate hundreds of pounds of food to local pantries and there will be at least one harvest festival each year. The gardens will bring together people of every culture and age group to share techniques and recipes. There will be pot-lucks and community cook-outs. OCG will donate flowers to seniors and cemeteries.

The vision of the gardens can not be contained in one plot. The schools will grow food for lunch programs and new locations will sprout up all around Oshkosh, meeting specific and general needs. Partnerships with area businesses and non-profit organizations will continue to be strengthened, and the sustainability of OCG will be ensured by the OCG student organization.

Bike and Pedestrian Survey

The City of Oshkosh is updating its Pedestrian and Bicycle Circulation Plan and they are looking for public input from people who live, work, study, or recreate in Oshkosh.   They have developed a website that has links to an online survey:

Even if you do not currently use a bike or walk to campus, completing the survey will help the city learn why you do not, or how they might improve city infrastructure.

Most of us use city facilities every day: sidewalks along streets carrying automobiles through campus are built by the city, to their current standards.  The last public meeting was in August, so student and staff input was not representative of UW Oshkosh pedestrians and bicyclists. So please consider giving the city some feedback from the campus community.
