The College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) offers many professional development opportunities for currently licensed teachers.
The 4K Leaps Program is a two-year program that provides teachers with in-depth knowledge and strategies to improve early literacy instruction. The goal is that, by the end of the program, students in the 4K Leaps program will meet or exceed the Wisconsin Early Learning Standards for listening, understanding, early literacy and math.
Offered through the EXCEL Center, this individually tailored program helps currently licensed teachers obtain additional teaching licenses in other subject areas.
The Collaborative Communities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education (C2STEM) is designed to facilitate and support STEM teaching and learning experiences in order to increase recruitment and improve retention of underrepresented students in STEM education in the College of Education and Human Services at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
Closing the Math Achievement Gap Project (CMAG) is a federally funded professional development program that seeks to increase the mathematics achievement of special needs Native American students. The intention of the project intervention (the Mindsong Math Professional Development Program) is to prepare special education teachers to effectively teach mathematics to their Native American students.
Project ESTRELLA is a 5-year federal grant (2012-2017) designed to provide professional development for those teachers who work with English language learners.
An affiliate of the National Writing Project, the Fox Valley Writing Project is a proven, professional program for kindergarten through post-secondary teachers. This innovative effort between UW Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services and area school districts brings teachers together to share strategies for teaching writing and improving their personal writing skills.
A WITQ grant-funded professional development workshop for regular and special education teachers that will provide teachers with inquiry-based instructional strategies, accommodations, and their importance for creating inclusive classrooms for students with disabilities and their peers without disabilities, STUDI is a collaborative project among three departments within the College of Education and Human Services – Special Education, Education Foundations, and Curriculum and Instruction.
