Tomorrow's Food. Episode 2
Description
Ocado is one of Britain's largest online food shopping centers. This episode, Dara witnesses its computer-controlled machinery at work as one million items are packed from a single location in a single day. Mechanical engineer Shini Somara visits a prototype supermarket where robots stack the shelves, whilst Chef Angela Hartnett eats a meal cooked by a "RoboChef"- a robot that precisely copies the actions of a chef. Shini also explores the future of dieting as she tries out experimental technology that could change the way people perceive food, helping them feel fuller faster. Also in this episode, Dara looks at how science is working to prevent food fraud, whilst in Canada Angela visits the world's largest farm. This farm's livestock consists of hundreds of millions of crickets. But although they are rich in protein and vitamins, is this really the food of the future? In Britain, Chris Bavin offers insect snacks up to the public to see if they'll bite.
