Beyond Punishment

Description

Freedom is what you do with what has been done to you. Three different countries. Three men who have killed and three families who have lost a loved one. The common idea of guilt and punishment is that the killers are punished, which helps the families to move on. But the people involved in these life-changing acts of violence have still not found peace. Years after judgments are made and sentences served, both sides are still searching...Beyond Punishment challenges our ideas of guilt and punishment by examining the need for forgiveness and the inner conflict this wish brings about. What does it mean to forgive? Would that be a betrayal of the victim of the crime? Is there an alternate concept of forgiveness?
