Description
This film examines "Cider with Rosie," a 1959 post-war memoir by Laurie Lee. Set chiefly in his hometown of Slad, England, this historical fiction novel features pastoral traditions, rich imagery, and prose poetry. Author Joanna Trollope traces the roots of the novel to Slad and London, visiting historical haunts of Lee and actual gravestones of his characters, uncovering the weaving of fact and fiction in the text, and studying why the novel was his masterpiece.
