This documentary of archival footage, photographs and corridos illustrates the short life of Francisco I. Madero (1873-1913), reformist politician and writer who served as Mexican President from 1911 to 1913. He helped depose the dictator Porfirio Díaz and initiate the 1910 Mexican Revolution. He was an advocate for social justice and democracy, but was attacked by entrenched supporters of the old regime and revolutionary elements with other agendas. He also contended with a hostile press, interference of the U.S. ambassador, Henry Lane Wilson, and a series of armed rebellions. He was betrayed by Victoriano Huerta and assassinated with his vice president on February 22, 1913.
