Mainstreaming Psychedelic Drugs
Description
Rick Doblin, the founder of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), and other psychedelics researchers discuss how MDMA (ecstasy) can be used as a therapeutic tool. MDMA was initially used as a therapeutic drug during the 1960s and 1970s, but due to its widespread recreational use outside of therapy the DEA classified MDMA as a Schedule I drug in 1985. The following year, Doblin founded MAPS with the goal of developing psychedelics into legal prescription drugs for a variety of uses. At the time of the interview, MDMA was in Phase 2 FDA trials for use as a therapeutic aid for people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. A Reason TV production.
