Sensuality & Nationalism In Romantic Ballet
Description
This program integrates documentary information with re-staged dances based on literature and iconography to reveal 19th century ballet innovations. Bridging the gap from Baroque dance to Romantic Ballet, this period offered a revolutionary focus highlighting the stories and characters of everyday people, inspired by a combination of dynamic influences from 'national dance'. Re-staged dances include Fanny Elssler's signature dance "Cachucha" and works by Henri Justamant, a French ballet master who notated scores of more than 100 ballets. Footage is supplemented by illustrations from the Derra de Moroda Dance Archives of Salzburg, Austria. The Written by University of Salzburg Department of Dance Studies Chair Professor Claudia Jeschke, and New York City Ailey School ballet teacher Robert Atwood.
