The Art Of Baroque Dance. Folies d'Espagne from Page to Stage

Description

This film layers historic architectural and artistic images to provide an in-depth view of the process of recreating Baroque dance. Based on a notation system devised by 17th century dance masters Raoul-Auger Feuillet and Pierre Beauchamps under King Louis XIV, it exemplifies five important characteristics of French Baroque dance: dance notation, treatment of space, arm embellishments, relation to music, and interpretation by the individual dancer. Written and directed by choreographer and dance historian Natalie van Parys.
