The Power Game-Chiang Kai-shek and His Families. Episode 1
Description
To understand the essence of history, we must begin our journey from its root. Through this program, viewers will begin to build a deep and nuanced understanding of Chiang Kai-shek by studying the life of Charlie Soong-missionary, entrepreneur, pivotal political figure, and close friend of Sun Yat-sen-and the early years of three of his daughters: Soong Ai-ling, who would marry H. H. Kung; Soong Ching-ling, who would marry Sun Yat-sen; and Mei-ling Soong, who would marry Chiang Kai-shek. Beginning with the late 1800s and ending in 1922, the program spans the collapse of imperial China and the difficult birth of the Chinese republic. Commentary is provided by Charlie Soong's great-grandson Clifford Feng; Tena Roberts, former librarian of Wesleyan College, where the Soong sisters went to school; H. H. Kung's eldest daughter Rosemond Kung; H. H. Kung biographer Zhou Zong-qi; Sun Yat-sen 's granddaughter Sun Sui-fang; and others.
