The Family Puppet Interview. You Can Learn a Lot from a Lobster

Description

In the 1970s, pioneer drama therapist Eleanor Irwin and colleague Elaine Portner developed the Family Puppet Interview, a technique that uses a puppet-show format to diagnose psychological problems in families with school-age children. Observing the interaction between parents and children as they select puppets, plan a story, and present a show gives the therapist clues about the family's decision-making process, communication style, behavioral patterns, roles, and areas of conflict. In this program, Portner works with a volunteer family to demonstrate a Puppet Interview session and how it can shed light on group dynamics as well as individual areas of concern.
