In the liner notes of Freak Out! it says: "These People Have Contributed Materially in Many Ways to Make Our Music What it is. Please Do Not Hold it Against Them." Knowing who these people are and were is one thing; knowing what they meant to Zappa is something completely different. Frank Zappa published a record of his most important influences on the inside cover of his debut album. This film explores the musical roots of Frank Zappa by putting The Freak Out List under the microscope and tracing the lineage from the names to the recordings and performances of the man himself.
