Ultimate Mexico. Globe Trekker
Description
In this Globe Trekker video, Ian Wright, Justine Shapiro, and Zay Harding explore the history and culture of Mexico, starting with a trek into the mountains to climb the mighty pyramids and see the remains of Teotihuacan, Chichen Itza, Palenque, Tulum and Tenochtitlan, where the Mayans, Aztecs, and other pre-colonial Mexicans lived and worshipped. They investigate how the arrival of Cortez and Christianity near Acapulco in 1519 transformed the country's culture right up to the present day. From bullfights to the Day of The Dead festival to art and cuisine, Spanish influences mingle with indigenous traditions. Away from the cities, the explorers go cliff diving and surfing near Acapulco, play with whales in Baja, sweat it out with the Tarahumara Indians in the spectacular Copper Canyon, and raft the jungle whitewater of Veracruz before taking a spiritual journey into the overgrown jungle home of the last descendants of the Mayan people of Palenque, the Lancandon Indians.
