The Caribbean Islands. Globe Trekker
Description
This Globe Trekker video follows Zoe Palmer through the Caribbean islands of St. Lucia, Martinique and Montserrat, all steeped in a hybrid of English, African and French culture, dotted with volcanoes, lush with rainforests, and teeming with marine life. In St. Lucia, Zoe explores the famous Castries Market before hiking into the mountains and learning about St. Lucia's history of slavery. On the French island of Martinique she visits the remains of the birthplace of Empress Josephine, explores the La Pagerie sugar cane plantation, learns about rum production at the Bielle Distillery, and goes climbing and diving in St. Pierre, a once bustling port wiped out by a volcanic eruption in 1902. Zoe ends up on the island of Montserrat, where volcanic threats dictate the way of life. She gets special permission to trek through the area on horseback and visits the former capital of Plymouth, which is now a ghost town.
