Malaysia and Southern Thailand. Globe Trekker
Description
This Globe Trekker video follows Justine Shapiro through Malaysia and Thailand. She starts in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, central to the government's mission to make Malaysia a fully developed nation by 2020. She joins the Orang Astli people on a hunting party, which they prepare for by making poison darts. In Thailand, Justine experiences the chaotic Hindu festival of Thaipusam, visits the tourist destination of in Phuket, enjoys a Thai massage, and motorbikes over to the legendary night-life in Patong where patrons participate unabashedly in the blatant sex trade of the area. Outside Patong is a sanctuary for gibbons, a breed of monkey which are drugged and abused as a form of cheap entertainment. Justine's final adventure is a sea canoe trek back across the bay to Phuket. The Sea Canoe Company is run by eco-warrior John Grey, who fights against the mass tourism destroying the lagoons.
