The Road to Carnegie Hall. Introducing the YouTube Symphony Orchestra
Description
Fledgling musicians meet masters of the symphonic art form in this behind-the-scenes look at a milestone Carnegie Hall event. The film profiles previously unknown artists who, after auditioning via the Internet, were subsequently invited to take part in the 2008 YouTube Symphony Orchestra, the first assembly of its kind. Shot in Japan, Bermuda, Romania, and other far-flung locations, the program documents a sublime example of artistic crowdsourcing as it traces the journeys of several participants summoned to New York to perform. With just two days to rehearse a huge program under classical maestros Michael Tilson Thomas and Tan Dun, the musicians face jet lag, language barriers, and an intimidating venue. But it's all worth it when the music begins - and the applause follows!
