Michael McIntyre. Medical Herbalist
Description
It's the whole plant that matters, says British medical herbalist Michael McIntyre before he prepares a fresh extract of devil's claw root. He and his wife Annie grow a wide variety of herbs in their garden (and press them with a cleverly modified hydraulic car jack) before processing them into medicines, which Michael prescribes to patients himself after assessing their needs. This program offers an in-depth look into the world of herbal medicine as practiced by the McIntyres, who explain in detail for the camera their approach to using herbs and their understanding of the biochemical effects of plant-based remedies. Viewers meet several patients who appear to benefit from the treatments, including a teenage girl with ovulation problems and a woman with gastritis.
