Welcome to My World. Teens Explore Diversity
Description
Operation Breaking Stereotypes is a high school exchange program that allows inner city students to attend school in Maine, and students from rural Maine to attend school in New York City. The goal is to promote mutual understanding - but are the teens more different than they are alike? This program follows a group of young people who took part in the exchange, documenting the experience of being paired up with peers from difference ethnic and cultural backgrounds in unfamiliar settings. The video captures the expectations, nervousness, humor, and disappointments of the teens, who do ultimately find some common ground. An excellent resource for classroom discussion on racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic divides.
