Bergman and the Cinema. The Bergman Trilogy
Description
From his childhood longing for a toy film projector to his radical reshaping of mid-20th-century cinematic conventions, this program examines Ingmar Bergman's life and six-decade career in motion pictures. Bergman and Swedish journalist Marie Nyrerod discuss his youth, education, and the experiences that led to his first forays into screenwriting and filmmaking. The director's final visit to Filmstaden ("Film City") on the outskirts of Stockholm, where many of his works were produced, evokes detailed accounts of his early struggles with the art form, his fortunate alliance with producer Lorens Marmstedt, his frequent collaboration with cinematographer Sven Nykvist, and more. Includes numerous clips from Bergman's films and unique behind-the-scenes material from his private archives.
