A Stranger in the Family. Struggles with Autism

Description

Christian is four years old and hasn't learned to speak yet. He's so disengaged that his mother can't even describe his personality, acknowledging that "there's very little we know about him." But Christian receives excellent, one-on-one attention from teachers at Giant Steps, an Australian school set up by parents of autistic children and designed for aggressive, results-oriented treatment. This program follows several Giant Steps students and their families over the course of a year. Viewers are introduced to a wide range of therapies as the struggle to reach Christian unfolds-likewise for Patrick, 11, afflicted with severe socialization problems, and brothers Oliver and Alexander, whose age disparity helps illustrate the benefits of starting therapy early.
