Acute and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Description
A young woman who was violently assaulted seems to be in a daze, feeling numb and disconnected from her surroundings. A war veteran has trouble with substance abuse and insomnia years after returning safely home. Both are suffering from stress disorders, described in detail in this program. The video identifies the DSM-IV-TR's primary and secondary symptoms of acute and post-traumatic stress disorders, and covers risk factors, diagnostic challenges, and treatments. Dramatic reenactments of therapy sessions allow viewers to grasp the personal experience behind clinical definitions of depersonalization, derealization, and other dissociative states.
