Description
When I. M. Pei designed the Bank of China Tower, he used a triangular base to help the Hong Kong skyscraper withstand typhoon winds. Why are triangles a better architectural support than rectangles or other shapes? This program delineates the properties of triangles using the Bank of China Tower and the Eiffel Tower as examples. The video also reveals why ancient merchant ships were able to go farther and faster with triangular sails-it's the same principle that allows a sailboat to move against the wind and airplanes to fly. The video covers equilateral, isosceles, right, congruent, and similar triangles.
