Puccini. A Concise Biography

Description

This installment of the Famous Composers series offers an overview of the life and work of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, born in Tuscany to a historically musical family. The film characterizes the young Puccini as a talented but disinterested student until he was inspired by a performance of Verdi's Aida to pursue opera. Following the composer to the Milan Conservatory, the program traces the dramas of his life, starting with the profitable Le Villi and moving on to his scandalous marriage and failed Edgar. Puccini finally settled at Torre del Lago, where he lived and wrote the rest of his operas, including La Boheme and Madam Butterfly. He left just a few times, taking trips to New York and conducting operas there and in Vienna.
