End-Stage Renal Disease and Hemodialysis
Description
The three D's-drugs, diet, and dialysis-make up the arsenal of tools for confronting end-stage renal disease. This program is designed to give patients knowledge and reassurance about the disease by examining its causes, impact, and the latest treatments. Animation showing how the kidneys process waste, graphics and narration that concisely explain concepts, and commentary from patients provide important insight into the processes of diffusion, osmosis, and ultrafiltration on which hemodialysis depends. Discussions of surgical procedures and the best approaches to medication and nutritional changes also help show that although ESRD and its treatments may become an aspect of life, life doesn't have to revolve around it.
