Modern Marvels. Trans-Siberian Railroad

Description

The Trans-Siberian Railroad is the longest, most expensive and complicated railroad ever built, connecting Moscow with the Russian Far East and the Sea of Japan. Ordered by Czar Nicholas II as a measure to save his empire and unify his country at the twilight of the 19th century, the Trans-Siberian practically tore Russia apart. The Trans-Siberian crossed great lengths over treacherous terrain, encountered difficult circumstances from logistical failures to economic failures and ended up triggering a war. Ironically, the builders of the railroad were originally the enemies of the state - men sentenced to hard labor in Siberian prisons.
