People Travel in Streetcars in New York and San Francisco ca. 1905
Description
The development of the electric streetcar changed urban transportation dramatically, allowing people to live farther away from where they worked. As a result, "streetcar suburbs" cropped up outside of major urban areas. As the 20th century progressed, automobiles replaced streetcars and trains, and people began to move even farther away from urban centers.
