U.S. Women Work in Factories During World War I ca. 1917
Description
During World War I women were asked to step out of the rigidly-defined scope of "women's work" to fill positions left empty by men drafted into the armed forces. Many women were thus employed in a plethora of non-traditional jobs, including working in munitions factories and aircraft construction hangars. A similar call for female workers went out during World War II. Copyright The WPA Film Library.
