Mercenaries Invade Bay of Pigs ca. 1961
Description
In April 1961, U.S.-trained Latin American mercenaries landed in the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. The invasion was a miscalculated attempt by the U.S. government to incite Cubans to overthrow Fidel Castro. The majority of Cubans, however, supported Castro, and the mission was aborted. Castro condemned what he called U.S. imperialism, prompting Adlai Stevenson to categorically deny U. S. involvement in the mission.
