Keepers of the faith. Chasidim in the new world and beyond
Description
Filmed in diverse Chasidic centers, including Montreal, New York, Vancouver, and Bangkok, this program presents a compelling depiction of modern Chasidism that removes layers of cultural stereotyping by focusing on three families and offering both male and female perspectives. These familial portraits are combined with archival footage of the "original rebels of Judaism" that shows the journey out of the 18th-century shtetls to the modern day. The Chasidic way of life, including rituals, kosher guidelines, education, dating, and marriage, is closely examined.
