The Arctic Oasis
Description
The Arctic Oasis portrays the four-month scientific expedition entitled NOW (North Open Water), where hundreds of researchers analysed the polynyas of the Great North on board the Canadian ice-breaker Pierre-Radisson. The polynyas or oases of the North are complex ecosystems where the fauna and flora are continually flourishing and replenishing. Due to the ever-oppressing concerns of global warming, the scientists foresee an increase in polynyas. The result: the biomass equilibrium is at great risk. For four months, in extreme conditions of the northern climate, scientists from six countries meticulously scrutinized and sampled particles of ice water, fauna, flora, and various ecosystems. The Arctic Oasis brings to light the numerous questions pertaining to the preservation of the Arctic and the future of our planet.
