Georgia. Albany/Columbus
Description
This program sees the Music Voyager team delving deeper into the Georgia heartlands, where spirituals, gospel, and the blues laid the foundation for American popular music. In Albany, meet Miss Rutha Harris, one of the original Freedom Singers who marched with Martin Luther King Jr. to Washington, DC. Every second Saturday, Ms. Harris still assembles her fellow Freedom Singers and new voices from the next generation to join in song and keep the spirit of freedom alive. Then, it’s on to Columbus and the house of Ma Rainy—"The Mother of the Blues." Her colorful story is just one of many enriching experiences on this journey to where it all began.
