Iron Men
Description
A mysterious band of pirates plundered the Mediterranean coast. Empires fell and the bronze trade dried up, leading to the discovery of iron. This documentary looks at how the miracle metal shaped the ancient world. Sparta and Greece used new weapons to defeat Persian invaders and preserve democracy. The Qin emperor developed the crossbow—the world’s first mass produced, modular weapons system—and united China. Iron tools improved Phoenician ship building, allowing Hanno to explore West Africa and establish colonies throughout the Mediterranean. The Phoenician alphabet also revolutionized the written word, leading to the spread of world religions and the first recording of the Old Testament.
